Introduction
For the first time in history, the 2018 Royal Rumble event had two matches – one for the men, and one for the women. In the men’s version: Shinsuke Nakamura last eliminated Roman Reigns to become first ever Japanese born winner. Nakamura would go on to face AJ Styles at Wrestlemania 35, a match he would lose.
The match was a good match, with strong showings from Finn Balor in particular as well as the eventual winner, but it’s overshadowed a bit with the other match that took place that evening: the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match.

- Three men: Cesaro, Sheamus & Seth Rollins – competed in the Royal Rumble before having another match. Many people have done double duty at the event, but they tend to have the standard match first.
- Shinsuke Nakamura became the first Japanese winner of the Royal Rumble (Yokozuna was billed from Japan, but he came from California)
- This marks the first time the current NXT Champion (Andrade) entered the Royal Rumble match.
