Introduction
The 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble saw St. Louis witness the return to the ring of “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, to take her place in the main event of Wrestlemania against Charlotte Flair.
What was notable by the match was the number of competitors involved that were free agents or unaffiliated with WWE. Entrants included Mickie James, the current Impact Wrestling Women’s champion. Flair held the record for the most eliminations, and Bianca Belair was the iron woman at nearly 50 minutes.

- Mickie James, who was under contract with Impact Wrestling at the time, was acknowledged as being from Impact Wrestling on screen. This was the first time that WWE had recognised a talent from another organisation since the AAA in the 1997 Royal Rumble.
- This is the first women’s Royal Rumble not to have any NXT involvement.
- Before this Royal Rumble, the WWE had a firing blitz, releasing a number of perfomers. This Royal Rumble has the fewest contracted-to-WWE competitors in history, with 14 of the field being free agents, on legends deals, or working for other companies.
- Charlotte Flair was the first current WWE Women’s Champion to enter the Royal Rumble, as she was the Smackdown Women’s champion at the time.
